Redefining Contaminated Dredge Containment: The Success of Bottom Sealing Filter Barrier in the Hudson River

Bottom Sealing Filter Barrier (BSFB) for contaminated dredge containment at a former MGP site. Installed in November 2022, this system has operated continuously for 23 months in the Hudson River providing 100% water column containment through all tidal, flow, and weather conditions. Realtime and continuous turbidity monitoring netted zero exceedances during dredging and capping activities.  System highlights include a 80’ wide barge gate, a positive bottom seal against large shoreline rip rap, and durability to withstand two New York winters and countless wind/storm events. The system is set to be removed in the winter of 2024.
